Welcome to Mental Joys

Published by barmycarmy at 1:34 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Hi there and welcome to Mental Joys. A new blog devoted to good mental health.

As a sufferer of Bipolar Disorder i know how hard it can be to live a life with mental illness. The stigma attached to mental illness and how it affects your day to day life. I hope to provide some information and advice in the hope it will help others to cope with there own illness.

So for my first post i thought i would provide some links that i have found invaluable.

Touching Minds - http://www.touchingminds.org
Touching Minds is absolutely amazing site for discussion of mental awareness. It has a plethora of  really valuable information and a massively supportive forum with categories covering a variety of issues and topics. There is a huge amount of support available from people who have been there and done that. I have been a member now for over 6 years now and it has constantly been a place of support and care. I would highly recommend.

MIND - http://www.mind.org.uk
The National Associate for Mental Health is just one of many charities devoted to good mental health. It has a huge information database with leaflets available to buy from Bipolar disorder to Anxiety. It also has drop in sessions across the country which i have found very useful. At the sessions theres everything from Art classes to Reiki and gives you a chance to meet other people in a similar situation.

C.A.L.M - http://www.thecalmzone.net
The Campaign Against Living Miserably is mainly targeted towards young men. It is statically known that males with mental illness dont always ask for help as they feel “Being silent is being strong”. The site again like MIND has a lot of information but also includes help with financial stress and work issues for example giving suggestions on how to dig yourself out of a rut.

Samaritanshttp://www.samaritans.org
The Samaritans is a 24/7 service for anyone who needs someone to talk to. You can email, phone, write and even speak to someone face to face in certain branches.

I would also like to recommend a book i bought called “Bipolar Disorder - The Ultimate Guide”
(http://tinyurl.com/ygnmpna) It provide everything you could possibly need to know including medications, how to deal with stress and how to prepare for a doctors appointment to name a small few. I have found this book invaluable!

Thank you for reading and i hope this blog helps.
